Sylvie Briand

Biography: 

Dr Sylvie Briand is currently leading the Epidemiology, Clinical Management and Research team in the Global Influenza Programme (GIP) in WHO - Headquarter in Geneva. She was head of GIP during the pandemic from April 2009 to March 2011. She joined WHO in 2001 and led the Global Task Force on Cholera Control, the Yellow Fever Programme and was team leader of the Disease Assessment Monitoring and Control of the GIP from 2007 to 2009. She has extensive public health experience mainly oriented towards alert and response to epidemic prone diseases. Dr Briand is a medical doctor specialized in Public Health, Infectious diseases and Epidemiology with an academic background in socio-anthropology and philosophy.
