Czarina Saloma Akpedonu


Czarina Saloma-Akpedonu obtained her doctoral degree in Sociology from Universitaet Bielefeld in Germany, her M.A. in Population Science from Peking University in the People’s Republic of China, and her B.A. in Sociology from the University of the Philippines in Diliman. She is Associate Professor at the Department of Sociology and Anthropology and Director of the Institute of Philippine Culture of the Ateneo de Manila  University. Her professional responsibilities included being Chair of the Ateneo Department of Sociology and Anthropology and President of the Philippine Sociological Society. She is currently the Vice President of the Board of the Research Committee on the Sociology of Science and Technology of the International Sociological Association. She was named “Outstanding Young Scientist in the field of Sociology” by the National Academy of Science and Technology in 2007. She is the author of “Possible Worlds in Impossible Spaces: Globality, Knowledge, Gender and Information Technology in the Philippines” (Ateneo de Manila University Press, 2006), and co-author with Mr. Erik Akpedonu of “Casa Boholana,” a book on the changing meanings of Boholano vintage houses (Ateneo de Manila University Press, 2011)
