Jürg Helbling

Biography: 

Prof. Jürg Helbling (professor of social anthropology, University Lucerne) has done field-research in the Philippines and has worked on war and pacification in Papua New Guinea as well as on the micro-politics of intra-state armed conflicts and state failure. He has organized several seminars on this latter topic with the participation of ICRC delegates. He has co-chaired SNF-funded NCCR research projects on conflicts between indigenous communities and settlers in South and South-east Asia (together with Danilo Geiger) and on the common use of wetland resources by farmers, pastoralists and fishermen in five African countries (together with Tobias Haller).
