Environmental Perspectives in Setting Global Sustainable Development Goals - GEN Roundtable - 5 June 2012 - 10:00

This year's World Environmental Day roundtable will focus on the Environmental Perspectives in Setting Global Sustainable Development Goals. The event will take place at the International Environment House 2, on Tuesday 5 June and will be followed by an official reception.

To be effective, environmental governance requires more than smoothly running institutions with adequate authority - clearly defined goals are equally indispensable. At the 2006 Global Ministerial Environment Forum in Dubai, the Swiss President and Environment Minister Moritz Leuenberger suggested that global environmental goals should be established, with the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) serving as a model.

Taking place two weeks from the UN Sustainable Development Conference of Rio+20, this roundtable is the occasion to discuss with high level representatives from institutions that have been contributing to the setting of Global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
