AC Debate Series - Perspectives Within International Organisations on the Financial and Economic Crisis

Thursday, 19 February, 2009 - 10:00 to 12:00
Graduate Institute, Site-Barton, Auditorium Jacques-Freymond

Presentation on the recently released Report on Income Inequalities in the Age of Financial Globalization

Raymond Torres, Director of the ILO's International Institute for Labour Studies

The Report discusses why the trend rise in income inequalities is important for policy makers. It also analyses the factors at work, including the deregulation of international capital flows, executive pay, growing job precariousness and the inability of traditional redistribution mechanisms (taxation, social policy, employer-union institutions) to share the gains from growth in a balanced manner

The presentation will end with the lessons that can be drawn from the Report in view of the current financial and economic crisis

The presentation will be followed by some comments by a professor from the Graduate Institute and by a representative from an international organisation

The Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, the ILO's International Institute for Labour Studies and the Swiss Network for International Studies
